Wedding DJ,
Mumbai & beyond

Sangeet, baraat, cocktail, reception, after-party. Five functions, five crowds, five different jobs — one DJ who knows which is which.

The hardest DJ job there is

A club crowd wants one thing. A wedding has your grandmother, your college friends, your parents' colleagues and a six-year-old on the same floor — and they all have to have a good night.

Kovishin plays Bollywood and commercial for the functions that need them and house, garage and dancehall for the ones that do not — which is why a single DJ can carry a multi-day wedding without the music repeating itself by day three.

01

Function by function

day one

Sangeet

The function that lives or dies on music. Performances need clean edits and exact cues; the open floor afterwards needs Bollywood and Punjabi records that pull every age group up at once. Choreographed-set tracks are cut to the rehearsal length in advance, not faded on the night.

morning

Baraat & haldi

Outdoor, short, loud and joyful. Dhol-friendly programming, big singalong records, and a system plan that works without a proper booth. The job here is energy in the first thirty seconds, not subtlety.

evening

Cocktail hour

Deep house, afro and downtempo edits at conversation volume. Nobody should have to shout across a table, and nobody should notice the music until they realise the room feels good.

the main event

Reception

Entries, first dance, speeches and then a proper floor. The arc is planned backwards from the last hour: what the room should be doing at the end decides what gets played at the start.

late

After-party

House, garage and dancehall for whoever is left. This is where a DJ who also plays clubs earns the booking — the after-party stops being a long encore and becomes its own night.

all week

Full-run bookings

Booking the functions together costs less than booking them separately, and by day two one person already knows your family's must-plays and do-not-plays.

How the planning works

01

Dates and availability

Send the dates, the city and which functions need a DJ. Availability and a full-run quote come back, usually within a day.

02

The music conversation

One proper call: the families' taste, the languages in the room, performance tracks, the first dance, and the records that must not be played under any circumstances. This is the call that makes the difference.

03

Cue sheets and edits

Entry edits, performance cuts and first-dance versions are produced ahead of time. Each function gets a written cue sheet shared with you, the planner and the MC so nobody is guessing on the day.

04

Sound coordination

The tech rider goes straight to your venue or sound vendor. If you do not have one yet, a recommendation can be made. Sound check happens well before guests arrive, at show level.

05

On the night

Set up early, work to the cue sheet, read the floor, adjust. The schedule always slips; the music absorbs it rather than fighting it.

03

Why a club DJ for a wedding

Plenty of wedding DJs can play a request list. Fewer can hold a floor for three hours when the request list runs out at eleven.

Club and festival experience is what you are actually buying: the instinct for when a floor is about to tip, the discipline not to play the biggest record too early, and the technical ability to hold a mix together when the planner signals the cake is twenty minutes late.

It applies at a wedding unchanged, simply aimed at a far more mixed floor. Production training also means entry edits and first-dance cuts that sound like records rather than fades.

Wedding questions

How many functions can one DJ cover?

Sangeet, cocktail and reception are the three that most often need a DJ, and all three can be covered across consecutive days. Baraat and haldi are usually shorter sets with a different sound requirement. Booking the full run is cheaper than booking each function separately, and it means one person already knows the family's music by the second day.

Can we choose the songs?

Yes, and for a wedding it is essential. First dance, entry songs, performance tracks and family favourites are all agreed in advance and rehearsed into the set. A do-not-play list is just as welcome. What does not work is a fixed playlist for the whole night — the running order has to respond to who is actually on the floor.

Do you provide sound and lighting?

Most wedding venues either have a system or work with a preferred sound vendor. Kovishin coordinates with your vendor directly, or can recommend one. The tech rider goes to them well in advance so there are no surprises when the trucks arrive.

Will you handle announcements and entries?

Entries, cues and short announcements are covered from the booth. For a full anchor or host role, bring a dedicated MC — Kovishin will work to their cue sheet. Doing both jobs at once means doing neither of them well.

Do you travel for destination weddings?

Yes, across India and internationally. Travel, accommodation and local transport are quoted separately for bookings outside Mumbai, and are usually a small share of a destination wedding's overall budget.

What if the schedule runs late?

It will. The cue sheet is built with slack in it, and the sets are designed to stretch or compress without the energy collapsing. A DJ reading from a rigid playlist cannot absorb a forty-minute delay; one building the set live can.

How much does a wedding DJ cost?

It depends on the number of functions, the city, the dates and whether sound and travel are included. Rather than publish a figure that fits nobody, send your dates and function list and you will get a quote for your actual wedding.

Send your dates.

The wedding dates, the city, and which functions need a DJ. That is enough for availability and a full-run quote.
