For a club night or a private party, a few weeks is usually fine. Wedding season and December dates go early — if your date falls in a peak window, ask as soon as you have it, even before the venue is confirmed. Dates are held only against a confirmed advance.

It depends on the city, the set length, the day of the week and whether sound and travel are included. Rather than publish a number that fits nobody, send the brief above and you will get a figure for your specific night. Travel and accommodation are quoted separately for shows outside Mumbai.

Most club and festival bookings use the venue's system, which is the right way round — house engineers know their own room. For weddings, private parties and outdoor events without a resident setup, a sound and lighting vendor can be recommended or coordinated. The tech rider in the press kit lists the preferred booth setup.

Requests and must-play lists are welcome, and for weddings they are essential — first dance, entries, family favourites. A do-not-play list is just as useful. What does not work is a fixed playlist for the whole night: the running order has to respond to the floor, which is the entire point of hiring a DJ rather than a speaker.

Short announcements, entries and cues on the mic are covered. For a full host or anchor role, it is better to bring a dedicated MC and Kovishin will work to their cue sheet — the music and the hosting are two different jobs and both suffer when one person does them at the same time.

Festival and fest slots run 45 to 90 minutes. Club sets run two to four hours. Weddings are usually several shorter sets across functions. Anything longer than four hours is better planned with a second DJ or a break built into the schedule.
